How To Find Rental Apartments or Rental Houses that accept Extra Large Dogs

Finding an apartment to live in when you have a Great Dane Dog is a difficult quest. It seems strange since Great Danes are way better apartment dogs than smaller breed dogs. Smaller breed dogs are yappy and have a tendency to pee all over the apartment.

Good Apartment Dogs
Great Danes are mellow indoors and if taken for a walk outside or a run at the local dog park regularly make wonderful apartment dogs. The trick is finding a renter that knows this about the Great Dane Breed.

Extra Large not Accepted
In large metropolitan areas like Los Angeles, New York City, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, Dallas for example it is more difficult to find an apartment that will rent to people with an extra large dog. This is because most rentals are run by large corporate management companies and when they say we accept large dogs it means at full size 60-75 pounds. We know as Great Dane Owners that does not fit the adult Great Dane by a long shot.

What to Look for
If you are in a more rural area like Montana or Idaho there are more small houses, duplexes and triplexes available for rent from single owners that say Pet Negotiable and may have some experience or understanding of the temperament of the Great Dane as well as the wonderful apartment living reputation of the breed.

How to Find
So how do you find non-corporate renters for a house or apartment to rent that accept the Great Dane Breed? One good Idea is to find out the areas and neighborhoods you most want to rent from. Once you have determined the top areas of interest stop by the local grocery stores, community centers, colleges and coffee shops and check the bulletin boards for posted rental properties. Also pick up the local collage papers; weekly papers and nickel add papers. These are the best place to find rentals from single family owners.

What to Know
The apartment search tools on the internet or the rental property booklets at the grocery store only advertise for paying customers and the cost is usually geared more for the large management companies that advertise consistently, not the guy who rents two houses and owns one.

If you are limited to online searching I encourage you to search this site for Great Dane Friendly Rentals, however I know from experience the community paper and bulletin board method works well.

Truth be Told
In fact I have never successfully found a rental that accepts Extra Large Dogs online. So I am offering to list any rentals from anywhere in the United States and Canada that will rent to a family that includes a Great Dane Dog or Dogs. I am providing this service for free to the Renter and person in need of a rental property.
