According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, in most cases cats and dogs should not be given sedatives or tranquilizers prior to flying. We highly recommend a seat belt restraint for all dogs traveling in cars. Large dogs must be properly restrained with a leash, harness or similar device. Very old or very young cats and dogs may find traveling too stressful.

Although pets may travel freely throughout the United States as long as they have proper documentation, Hawaii requires a 30- or 120-day quarantine for all dogs and cats.
